The top 3 reasons you’re not getting clients

Not getting new clients? Not getting enough clients? Not getting the right clients?

For creative entrepreneurs, not getting clients is the number 1 greatest struggle.  But let’s back up a bit and look at the full picture.

When you start a business, the excitement is BIG! You’ve worked in secret for what feels like ages to birth this amazing, creative business idea into the world, and you’re over the moon to finally share it with the world. You’ve got passion oozing out of you, you’re so proud that you launched this thing, and feel so much closer to who you really are and what you love doing. Can you relate?

Oh man, it’s one of the best feelings in the world. (Hello serial entrepreneur over here…)

But what other entrepreneurs never tell you – and what you never see on instagram – is what happens AFTER the adrenaline calms down:

The intense and overwhelming fear and anxiety that rushes in a few days / weeks / months later when all those potential clients you thought would be knocking down your virtual door, well… aren’t.

Womp womp womp.

And it’s this same fear that can return again, years later, when you’re not sure where your next paying customer is going to come from. Or, when you’re burnt out and unfulfilled by a business you built that gets clients, yes, but not for the kind of work you REALLY want to be doing.

>>The harsh reality is that whether you’re a newbie boss babe or a veteran – a business is just an all-consuming HOBBY if you’re not getting paid.

The reasons you’re not getting clients and growing your business? They’re not what you think, and that’s why it’s easy to get stuck trying to fix the wrong problems.

The go-to solutions for most entrepreneurs who are struggling to get clients often look like this:

  • Bouncing around from one new strategy to the next (“I feel like I’m throwing spaghetti at the wall, but if I experiment enough, something is going to work.”)
  • Adding new offerings or discounting their services (“I want to give people more options to fit their all their needs and different budgets.”)
  • Signing up for more courses and classes (“If I just had this ONE extra skill / certification / technique I’d be more credible and confident in what I’m offering.”)
And yes, there are times when you do need to learn a new skill, experiment with your strategy, or switch up your offerings, but 9 times out of 10, these tactics will NOT get you more clients. So if the problem isn’t your skills, your strategy, or your offerings, you’re like wondering what IS?

What’s REALLY stopping you from getting clients?

From attracting (and booking) your dream clients?

1.You don’t have (or haven’t committed to) a clear direction.

This is especially common for newer business owners, and makes it pretty damn hard to grow an audience in the first place, let alone get clients. Lack of direction goes hand in hand with comparing yourself to other brands, unknowingly copying what others in your industry are doing, and getting overwhelmed to the point of inaction by all the possible things you *could* do. Definitely NOT the ways to make your business stand out. When you’re stuck here, it’s pretty easy to start feeling defeated, question your worth and skills, and your decisions.  Not only does this mess with your confidence, it also confuses your audience and makes it totally impossible to effectively do no. 2 and 3.

2. You’re not building your know, like and trust factor.

You’ve likely heard this phrase buzzing around all the business and marketing blogs, and with good reason. It’s the 3-prong approach to visibility and communication that is imperative to attracting the right audience and converting them to loyal, happy-to-pay customers. Simply, it’s showing up in the places where your dream clients are hanging out, really getting to know their greatest fears / struggles / desires / needs, sharing your quirks and personality (being 100% YOU), and freely demonstrating how you can help them get from point A to point B.  Your people need to like you and trust you in order to take the next step and work with you, and they can’t do that if they don’t know who you are (and if you don’t really know and reflect who THEY are).

3. You’re not occupying a clear position and authority in your market.

In other words, you haven’t positioned yourself as the go-to expert in the minds of your dream clients. Here’s the thing, in order to have clients lining up to work with you, they need to immediately think of your brand and what you offer as the best solution to their biggest frustration or problem.  If they don’t, they’ll be looking to others (or worse, Google) to find help. Positioning is all about focusing on what you want to be known for, and leveraging your valuable differences – the differences that make YOU the best (hell, the ONLY) choice in your potential client’s mind.

All three of these (clear direction, building know/like/trust factor, and clear position of authority) are essential to grow a successful, fulfilling business with a waiting list of dream clients. Is there one problem in particular you know you have? Are you struggling with all three?
It kills me to see bosses like you – so full of potential, creativity, and talent – feeling frustrated, confused, and doubting their brilliance.

Because you have gifts that the world NEEDs (and because it shouldn’t be this hard to get paid to do what you love), I decided to DO something about it. (Fo FREE!)
